CONSTRUINDO A EDUCAÇÃO
JB Xavier

BUILDING THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS

J.B Xavier

I have always considered naive, and somewhat stupid, the reductionist view of the 3rd world, which insists on dressing developed countries - or empires, as they call it - with a huge pointy hat, from donkey, at the same time that its third-world thinkers are flying into the masters of truth and emit stereotypical views about the colossal power of the so-called First World countries.

Despite to criticizing these advanced countries, the majority of Third World critics flocks there on vacation, no matter if they are ideologues, public opinion formers , or even ordinary citizens. It is because this stupid critics has not development in their own countries, they travel to the developed countries to "buy" in his travels the development that these centuries conquered, sometimes at the expense of much blood.

There are exceptions. There are those who go to Bangladesh, but do you know someone who has been there on vacation? So, these critics of the developed countries, but that spending their holidays in Paris, should know if they were more attentive observers, that the raw material common to all developed country, is Education! And it is not possible to bring Education in the mail. Just see the empty package can being thrown through the window of the luxury car in the streets of large cities of our country. It is this poverty of historical vision, this reversed lens by which developed countries are analyzed, which keeps the planet divided socially so unjust.

The education in developed countries is the result of a long, arduous, and often painful historical process. You can not buy education with social status. Education is not synonymous with intellectualism and most often it is the opposite. Education is a state of mind where one lives, works, acts and interacts as a function of the community it belongs. Education is to be part of a social chain without trying to be its strongest link, in contrast, is trying to be just one link, no more, no less strong than the others, Education makes us aware that chains always break in its weakest link. Education is a historical process that only develops itself if there is fertilized ground for this. So, understanding this process is an important part to promote education in the 3rd world, so, it is not necessary to try to buy it on vacation trips or imported products.

History teaches us, upon the birth or death of empires, that huge engines are started. These mechanisms, often global, have a such size and rhythmr, which can be glimpsed only by the few who are willing to abandon ideology, resentment, and various emotions, and who have the power and willingness to depart sufficiently from the scene, until a distance in which to be possible to observe it as a whole and all its parts interact. Only then, at a distance sufficiently wide angle of view, it is possible to observe the conduct of spirals of the human race interacting, and the complex processes it uses for this interaction - consciously and unconsciously.

Whenever we hear opinions about to one or other develop country that rule to this or that country, we are faced with fragmented views and analyzes, often misguided and soaked by excessive nationalism, that even laudable from the standpoint of patriotism, are mere rales that add nothing to understanding the historical process as a whole.

In the universal scenario, the flow of centuries saw the dawn and twilight of many empires, each built in different ways and with different motivations as well. Each of them have left their indelible mark in the world, and directly or indirectly, we are the heirs of those motivations. Each of them left his mark on the universal scene, and from each of them, the History drew lessons that redirected the world toward the material and intellectual progress. So it was with the empire of the Caesars, Genghis Khan, Alexander of Macedon, Ming dynasty, the Mayans, the Aztecs, the Phoenicians, and, lately, the Austrians, the British and the Americans.

Some extraordinary inventions led to the emergence of some of these empires, such as agriculture, for example, others were created by them, as some intangible concepts in the field of thought and technology. Nowadays, Descartes and Einstein are the best examples of the second case. Descartes, with his bipartite vision of human being, and Einstein, with his formula that make possible the control of nuclear energy. Therefore, thousands of years before them, the Greeks had already established the foundations of Western thought, and the Chinese, the Eastern one.

These two origins of human thought were so different - and still are - that have remained geographically separated by thousands of years, coming to be presented to one another only with the advent of the travels of Marco Polo, and still yet, incipient.

To a careful observer, who is observing the scene with a panoramic vision, it is very clear the patterns of movements of human societies, and its acceleration through the centuries. Thoughts and philosophies have become increasingly volatile, having less and less human needs for stability. Great timeline of human thought for millennia established, as the notion of Time, for example, were gradually - and then more rapidly - changing, to the point that no longer serve as a reference in this more stability.
(On the quest for stability, see our article authored "In Search of Permanence")
 http://www.usinadeletras.com.br/exibelotexto.phtml?cod=1960&cat=Artigos

And so we reach the twentieth century - a watershed in the history of human presence on the planet. In this century, finally, the man got the ultimate weapon, with which he dreamed that the first warriors that used swords, bows and arrows. For the first time in history, large-scale human annihilation - and even global - was a reality. This power factor, refocused and accelerated the march of human interactive mechanisms. So, new speeches had to be created and new philosophies needed to be formulated.

But another factor, hitherto unknown to man, came to add to this annihilating power of atomic weapons: the overpopulation of the planet.
(About overpopulation, see our article authored "The 3rd Millennium: What awaits us) http://www.usinadeletras.com.br/exibelotexto.phtml?cod=2292&cat=Artigos

As the first users of firearms, some countries that managed to develop such weapons took over the hegemony in the human chess board. This hegemony does not hold only military aspects but also the cultural, and many new gears, hitherto unknown, were added to the mechanism of human interaction, making it even more complex. You can view these new gears in the new devices that resort to the nations with sufficient power to impose them on others, whether they are military or economic.

But another factor, which escapes the control of great nations, has brought some equilibrium to the balance of world power: The democratization of information, enabled by the Internet at almost no cost! This factor acts like sand in the gears of the delicate global balance; it makes the mechanism grinding and threatens to broken it, bringing it dangerously close to an imminent failure.

What we're watching, in fast-motion, is the progress in just a few decades, of the historical process that usually took centuries to complete itself. However, humanity is still seeking ways to adapt itself to this speed, and while searching, the system accelerates more and more, making the whole machine vibrate violently. While vibrate, it is create friction, but also are growing and settling in the crucible of history, the new foundations of human relations on which our descendants will live.

If we learn to build that relationship, we will be building the pillars of education that will libetare us from the ugly label of “3rd World”.
